      Diversifying and expanding the knowledge base of the college curriculum does not prevent students from studying traditional texts. They have a high desire to connect and engage with faculty. Ideally, writing ability must be assessed by more than one piece of writing, in more than one genre, written on different occasions, for different audiences, and responded to and evaluated by multiple readers as part of a substantial and sustained writing process. As a result, assessments should include formative and summative assessments from all these kinds of readers.
